Privacy Policy
Effective June 8, 2026 · Valt is currently in invite-only beta.
Valt is a personal entertainment-ranking app. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We collect only what the app needs to work — there are no advertising networks, no data brokers, and we do not sell information that identifies you.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following, and nothing more:
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple-provided identifier and (if you choose to share it) your email address, which we use to create and secure your account.
- Your name. If Apple provides your name at your first sign-in, we store it durably so we can identify and support you during the beta when an email or display name is ambiguous. Apple only returns your name on the first authorization per Apple ID. You can set or edit your display name independently at any time.
- Content you create. The titles you add, your rankings and comparisons, sentiments, notes, dates, and lists — this is the core of the product and exists to power your experience.
- Friend connections. Friend relationships, invites you send or redeem, and (if you opt in) email-hash matching to help you find people you already know. This powers the social layer.
- Feedback you submit. Messages and optional screenshots you send through the in-app feedback tool, used to improve the product.
- Crash reports. Diagnostic crash data via Sentry, scrubbed of authentication tokens and email addresses, used to find and fix bugs.
- Usage telemetry. Operational logs of app events and the API calls the app makes, used for reliability monitoring and to manage costs.
2. How we use your information
- To create your account and keep it secure.
- To provide the core product — ranking, recommendations, and your lists.
- To power the friends and invite features you choose to use.
- To debug crashes, monitor reliability, and improve the app.
- To respond to your feedback and support requests.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell information that identifies you.
3. Data retention
Your account profile and content (below) are kept until you delete your account, at which point they are removed as described in the next section.
4. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete my Valt account.
What is deleted: your profile, all rankings and comparisons, all notes and dates, all friend relationships, your feedback, all imported data, and your invite records.
What is retained: globally-shared content metadata (such as titles, cover images, and industry scores) that contains no information about you; and the operational telemetry described in Section 3. For anti-abuse reasons, a one-way hashed reference may be kept so that a block placed against an account survives that account's deletion — it cannot be reversed to identify you.
Sign in with Apple: when you delete your account, we attempt to revoke the Apple sign-in token on your behalf as a courtesy. You can also revoke Valt's access yourself at any time in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Sign in with Apple.
5. How we share information
We use a small set of service providers to operate Valt. We share only what each needs to do its job:
- Supabase — hosting, authentication, and our database (managed PostgreSQL on AWS infrastructure).
- Sentry — crash diagnostics, with tokens and emails scrubbed before they are sent.
- Content providers — TMDB, Watchmode, Google Books, Open Library, and IGDB. We query these only for catalog metadata (titles, covers, availability); we never send your identity to them.
We do not share your information with advertising networks or data brokers, and we do not sell information that identifies you.
6. Aggregated and de-identified data
We may create and use aggregated or de-identified data — including derived insights about taste and popularity trends — to operate, analyze, and improve Valt, and we may reserve the right to use such non-identifying data for the future development of the service. This data does not identify you. To be clear: we do not sell information that identifies you.
7. Your rights
- Deletion — delete your account and its data in-app via Settings, as described above.
- Correction — edit your display name, notes, and content details in-app at any time.
- Access & export — a self-serve export is planned; in the interim you can request a copy of your data by emailing us (see Section 10).
8. Children's privacy
Valt is intended for users aged 13 and older. During onboarding we ask for your date of birth and confirm you meet this minimum age. If you indicate you are under 13, we do not create an account and we do not store your date of birth or any other information. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we will update this page and notify you in the app the next time you open it, before you continue using Valt. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
